February 5th, 2011 by Sophia Wardlaw

Build your look upon the trendy 70′s style with the Spice Girls-inspired sky-high platform wedges! It is a fashion forward fetish-worthy footwear (almost) everyone can sport. It is especially dedicated to the ones who lack a flattering height but not recommended to the ones with chunky, muscly calves.

Designers make it clear: platform shoes are a simple yet striking footwear choice for spring 2011. A wedge heel gives you stable height, and looks elegant when paired with fitted skirts. It is also a great complement to spring’s 70s inspired maxi dresses and flare pants that give you feminine appeal and stamp quirky sophistication (see Lavin, D&G, Marc Jacobs, Prada, Rick Owens, Derek Lam and Chanel). Whether you’re going to the club or dinner with friends, the platform heels complete a variety of looks.

Platform shoes were very cool during 90′s Spice Girls-mania. Perfectly designed for the the Super-Pop era of the mid to late 90s, Melanie Brown, Emma Bunton and Geri Halliwell sparkled brilliantly in their Saturday Night Fever type platform shoes.

A very summery wedge option are lofty raffia-covered platform espadrilles. These shoe pieces dominated the spring 2011 D&G fashion show as they are especially inspired by the ’70s bohemian chic.

Edgy or romantic? Whatever your choice is, remember: platform wedges will let you stay on your feet all day in quite the fashionable manner!
