Summer Trends

July 10th, 2011 by Annabelle Lemberg

With the first of those warm, sunny days finally making an appearance, we’re just itching to rock the warm weather classics and fresh trends we’ve been eyeing all winter long. From peek-a-boo crochet to hippie chic tie-dye, these are the styles that will take us through the season of barbecues, bonfires, seaside retreats, and all of the other warm-weather activities we’ve been looking forward to. That’s why we’re bringing back our ideelSTYLE series, which is full of the covetable pieces you won’t be able to live without this summer.

Kicking off this month’s ideelSTYLE series is our White Out sale, which has everything you need to stay cool while looking—dare we say—white hot in summer’s go-to color: white! The surprisingly Read full post…

Marcello Mastroianni at Princeton, 1960

July 9th, 2011 by Sophia Wardlaw

Several weeks ago, in our post on chic Ivy, Bruce Boyer left a comment saying that the vibe of the outfit pictured made him think of Marcello Mastroianni at Princeton.

The iconic Italian actor never attended the university, of course, but we wondered what he might have looked like if he had been a student during the heyday of the Ivy League Look.

Marcello is pictured above in a charcoal worsted suit from Langrock, blue university-striped oxford shirt by The English Shop, and Brooks Brothers #3 rep-striped tie purchased at a trunk show.

An Art Collection With a Denim Connection by Alison A. Nieder

July 7th, 2011 by Annabelle Lemberg

Listening to NPR this morning I caught a story about a pair of sisters–Claribel and Etta Cone–who recently donated their vast collection of turn-of-the-20th-century art to the Baltimore Museum of Art. It wasn’t until the interview turned to the subject of how the Cone sisters could afford to buy such treasures, that I made the connection to the sisters’ surname. Cone sisters=Cone Mills, the denim giant in Greensboro, N.C. Ah-ha!

Among the sisters’ collection is the Matisse above and the two below, which remind me of an exhibition I saw several years ago–Matisse: The Fabric of Dreams His Art and His Textiles–at the Metropolitan Museum of Art. A
